Marsh Street is a shady tree-lined avenue faced with a number of beautiful stately homes from the early 1900's. 301 W. Marsh is one of the premium homes on the avenue ~ a quiet side street running perpendicular to the well-traversed and very popular S. Fulton Street. Visitors come to Salisbury annually to see the plethora of historic homes in this area.
Step up onto the 500+ square foot veranda to the beveled glass front door ~ into the wallpapered vestibule with stained glass interior door ~ and begin your journey! Please enjoy this picture gallery, and click HERE to learn more about 301 W. Marsh Street!
OK ~ you've seen the 23' living room with its gorgeous artisan fireplace surround, the sunroom with beveled glass French doors that lead out to the veranda, the dining room with its stained glass windows, the breakfast room, kitchen (how about that hot-water spigot over the Viking range!), the den, and downstairs bonus room (used as an office or nursery). You did not see the butler's pantry, the laundry off the kitchen, or the small back porch off the kitchen ~ but how about that view of the fenced-in back yard with that spectacular grandfather oak tree focal point!
Now . . . there's so much more to see at 301 W. Marsh Street! Come on ~ and follow me! Let's head upstairs!
This right-out-of-the-movies staircase takes you up to a second floor central mezzanine that lets each room enjoy sunlit exposures! Let's go . . .
Four large bedrooms surround the mezzanine, and the common second floor bath has that wonderful Victorian slipper claw-foot bath tub and marble tile floor.
Let's head back downstairs (the light fixtures are worth noting in this wonderful Arts & Crafts home ~ modern fixtures yet suited for the era). We'll have a look at the solid brick porte-cochère, or carriage porch (the porte-cochère was a common feature of many late 18th- and 19th-century mansions and public buildings), and another look at the wonderful back yard. We took these pictures today, so sadly spring has not sprung enough to grant us leaves on the trees...but you can just imagine the vast cooling shade canopy that marvelous grandfather oak casts on the house, yard, and patios!
So thanks for coming on the tour of 301 W. Marsh Street with me! Ready to see it in person (cuz trust me ~ the pictures don't do it justice)?
